The Colours of My Sea belongs to my ongoing series of abstract landscape paintings, in which real places, journeys and memories are reduced to colour, light, texture and rhythm.
The painting evokes an early autumn morning somewhere between forest and water. The sun is beginning to rise, warming the horizon while the landscape is still cool and partially hidden in morning mist. It could be a lake seen through the trees, a clearing opening towards the first light, or the moment when the surface of the water begins to reflect the colours of the sky.
My method begins with a real landscape but gradually moves towards abstraction. I imagine taking a very narrow fragment of a view and stretching it across the entire canvas. Details disappear, while the fundamental structure remains: sky, distant forest, water, meadow or earth transformed into horizontal fields of colour.
The surface is built from numerous layers of acrylic paint, repeatedly applied, scraped and partially removed. Earlier colours return through scratches and irregular marks, creating a textured abstract painting that reveals more when viewed up close.
Music is inseparable from this series. The titles of my paintings are connected to songs associated with particular journeys, places or moments. They form a kind of sonic diary — a personal cipher linking sound with landscape and memory.
Despite its title, The Colours of My Sea does not describe one particular sea. It is closer to the idea of an internal landscape — a remembered place reconstructed through colour.
A contemporary landscape painting suspended between representation and abstraction: autumn air, distant trees, water and the first warm light of the day.
